Dead End

First film shot on a HD24P camera in South Africa.

South African film and television production house Videovision Entertainment has imported the first High Density HD24P camera for use in South Africa.

The camera was used on the company's recently completed short film, DEAD END, by newcomer Donovan Marsh, together with partners Sasani Studios and pay-TV broadcaster M-Net.

Considered by many to be the new aesthetic, the HD format has been designed to fill the gap between Digibeta and 35mm. While HD offers contrast ratios and depth matched only by 35mm, it is also an extremely cost-effective medium that offers great production value.

The HD format has never been used in South Africa before and has generated great interest locally with numerous industry players rallying to support the project.

Industry participants include Sasani Studios, M-Net, Kodak, Southern Lighting and Magus Visual, from which the camera was hired from Visual Impact in the UK.
